Boyzone's Shane Lynch still gets a buzz out of performing. And the Butlins crowd don't disappoint...
You'd think that someone who has had as much success as Shane Lynch would take a good audience reaction in his stride. But after an encore to a delighted weekender crowd, he's beaming from ear to ear like it's his birthday.
"Absolutely amazing! I buzzed off all those people having a good time," he laughs "And you can't do a gig and not enjoy it when the crowd's enjoying it that much. We looked out into the crowd and saw 20 Smurfs, lots loads of people dressed as Elvis, cowgirls, the lot. It's just the essence of fun."
Unlike fellow band member Ronan Keating, Shane has shunned a solo career in favour of touring with his band, The Lynch Mob. "I'm not a solo artist. I've had my fair share of pressure with album and record sales - now it's about having fun."
It's also about going back to his Irish roots and performing the type of music that's close to his heart. "Our sound is similar to The Pogues or The Dubliners."
Having a good time is what it's all about in every aspect of Shane's life. Having been a GT Championship driver he's now trying his hand at Pro-Drifting - an extreme form of motorsport. "After Boyzone I got into rally cars and I've been a motorsport pro since 2002."
You'd think the strings to his bow would end there, but having appeared on Celebrity Love Island and Sky One' Dream team, he has his eye on more acting roles.
"I'm a career chancer who takes opportunities as they arise. I've done pantomime for four years now - it's brilliant, pure entertainment."
"I love Butlins for the same reason - the entertainment value. How can you beat a night like this? I've known the bass player Andy for about four years now and I've never seen him dance once. He was jigging away tonight!"
