Motown legend Roy G. Hemmings has wowed crowds at The Royal Albert Hall, played with The Drifters for President Bill Clinton at the White House....and is a regular at our Big Weekends.
I know instinctively what my audience loves to hear, says Roy, a long-standing member of celebrated soul group The Drifters. And there's always a fantastic reaction from the Butlins crowd. That's no great surprise after all, this is the guy who has wowed crowds at The Royal Albert Hall and, by special request, played with The Drifters for President Bill Clinton at the White House. He also invited Chuck Berry and the Detroit Spinners to sing for him. I think Bill's a bit of a soul boy.
Roy now tours with eight-piece band Dictionary of Soul, performing floor fillers from James Brown, The O-Jays, Otis Redding, The Supremes, The Temptations and more. I'm from the old school. I like that big band pow!'. I carry a large band with me as it creates a powerful sound. I mean, how can you play soul and Motown and not have a horn section, or three lovely ladies singing up front? I hate to cut corners. With us, you're guaranteed a good show.
Roy is working on new solo material, as well as producing an album for his sax player, Aanna Brooks.
