Better practise strutting your stuff in your platforms - D.I.S.C.O is coming to Butlins in all its funky fabulousness.
Angie Brown is one diva who'll be setting the dance floor on fire.
Il ove disco, most of my memories of being a teenager, and turning into an Adult were from back then. My first late night out is all wrapped up in disco music. Like freshman dances at drama school and college and nights out with friends. It was all about letting yourself go, or doing some moves from Saturday Night Fever, right in the middle of a dance floor that was lit up... That was all the rage. You are most famous for your House music.
I am mostly known for House music as 'I'm Gonna Get You' has been my biggest hit to date. But I have always made a living singing all sorts of music and disco music has always featured highly at any private parties and do's. And that's where I learnt my trade... And I also learnt very quickly that you can go anywhere in the world and people and clients basically want the same set. Like 'We Are Family' and 'Young Hearts Run Free'. Disco music works!
That's easy! The most singly exciting moment of my career was when Bizarre Inc entered the British charts at an amazing No.17 (which was a Sunday evening, and the phone was ringing off the hook). Then on the Monday morning it was confirmed the we had Top Of The Pops to do the following Wednesday. OH MY GOD... It was such a breathtaking experience to have.
Wow... There are lots and lots of things I loved about the 70's, like being an Osmond's, David Cassidy and Jackson Five fan. The summers were hot, and I loved attending The Brownies every Wednesday. Buying records from Woolies, and playing Knock Down Ginger after school with my friends...
I've had lots of those, even at Butlins. I fell over the monitor after having eye contact with one of the backing singers. And recently I went to the loo two minutes before I was due on stage and spent the whole gig with toilet paper hanging below my hemline. Then apparently when it did finally fall to the ground, I proceeded to walk around with it stuck to my shoe heel. I was told about it after the show, in my dressing room!!!
I love working with the crew and all the people that are working hard backstage to make my show work. And of course all my dancers, backing vocalists and the band. They have all been so nice to
me. But the audience at Butlins are great fun - they seem to 'get me' and what I'm trying to do with my love for (in-your-face) disco and house music. I love my job and think that they sense that. That makes them warm to me, which in turn makes me want to go for it even more.
Oh... Definitely one person all dressed up as 'Pingu'. Very scaryworld.com...
It would definitely be Stevie Wonder and his live band. I saw him once at Wembley and cried all the way through it. The guy is a legend.
I like the clever mix the Butlins MD came up with where I come out of 'I'm Gonna Get You' and go straight into 'Thinking of You' and that's great fun to do live. Coz you get two for the price of one.
I haven't performed for Royalty as yet, in one of those Royal Performance Shows, so hopefully I have that to look forward to one day. And I have sung in some of the UK's biggest venues, while backing top acts. But my best gig happens once a year at the 'Pride' festival in Manchester where I headline after many acts. The crowd go mad and I love every minute of it. It's my equivalent of appearing at Wembley Stadium. Wonderful!
